Ties History
The tie’s ancestor is the scarf and, even earlier, a simple piece of cloth. For example, many armies used different colours, tied gently around their necks, to define their militar rank. During a parade of the croatian soldiers who were fighting with Louis XIV King of France, french citizens could admire the beautiful croatian scarfs and they began to spread that fashion with the name of CRAVATES from the Croat HRVAT meaning “croatian”. After that time, ties were constantly transformed and beautified, taking on their definitive forms (the four-in-hand and the bow tie) at the start of this century. The people of Steenkerke, a small city of Belgium, began to wear the “cravates” as a knotted tie, contributing in this way to an even wider spread of the new fashion. However, a necktie is much more than a mere accessory: it is also one way a man expresses himself, a fashion affirming the wearer's individuality. In many professional situations, a tie is the only fancy touch a man is allowed to indulge himself.
